We’re hearing that badgers are on the move earlier than we usually see at this time of year Have you noticed? Maybe you’re seeing snuffle holes in your garden, or signs of badgers digging in a drier spot?
Badgers digging in gardens appears to have started a few weeks early compared to previous years; whether this is a sign of climate change is difficult to know, but weather conditions have left areas very damp. These would be ideal conditions to increase the insect burden [a badger’s main food source.
Another sign of early activity is the movement of the boars, but it may indicate saturation of some low-lying setts or early cub births. Setts under sheds would, for short periods, be a drier option for badgers on the move.
